The World’s Biggest Nation, The Nation’s Biggest English Paper

China is the world’s most populous nation, with 1.3 Billion people.   So, when I get the call from their most popular English language newspaper, The China Daily, I was thrilled.

The excitement reached a fever pitch at the HammerInTheNews office when we found out what award we were getting:  ‘Most Objective Foreign News Source.’  North American news can often make the front page, as with the coverage of The Onion’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ Contest, but they rarely hand out the award for objectivity to a small news outlet like ours.

My trip to China was luxurious, though none of the Pimsluer’s Japanese cds could prepare me for the eloquent words of Xian Lee, the Master of Ceremonies:

“Farley Hammerton, and his team, are the rare sort that are not afraid of telling the truth.  Their coverage of the Chinavore, touched me in the center of my heart.  You are unafraid to route out capitalist corruption in your diseased and broken democracy.  We are forever grateful for your contribution to truth and objective journalism.”

To be sourced by The China Daily as a bastion of objectivity is a high honour, and one this humble editor will never forget.
