Farley Hammerton. January 28, 2013.
The shovel was meant to hit the ground in one of Hamilton’s poorest neighbourhood, Beasley Park, early this spring. The whole community was rallying around a new park, replete with splash pad, jungle gym and outdoor swimming pool. There is no jungle gym or splash pad, though, because the materials went missing.
Murray Scott, Councillor of Ward 16, made an emotional, full confession to HammerInTheNews editor, Farley Hammerton, concerning the whereabouts of the missing gym. “I’ve been the leader of a corrupt department, Public Works. The modified LRT plans, the time off, the grave robbing – all me. They’ve been under the threat of losing their jobs. I’m so, so ashamed,” said a tearful Scott. “I sold the jungle gym and splash pad to the highest bidder, and had the road maintenance crew install it. I’m just in over my head now, but I will fix this. [sobs]”
Councillor Scott issued a full apology to the people of Beasley Park, and made them a promise: “I will personally install a splash pad and jungle gym that’s so fun, you’re gonna forget you’re poor.”
