Several Hamilton Mountain councillors would like to put an end to the one-way/two-way street debate, made popular by Raise the Hammer. Their motion to “level the space between King and Main and combine the streets together”, was passed last night, along with the motion to raze the old Sanford School. “Those bleeding hearts wanted a two-way street, then they’ll get one…oh, how they’ll get one. Ten lanes on either side; Hamilton’s own Autobahn.”
An outcry is echoing through social media outlets today:
“This is not what we meant. #HamOnt” @raisethehammer
“Oh, the #irony!” @pgraefe
Public consultation was held in such a small venue, National Pizza & Wings, that only seven people, including the dough master and delivery guy, knew what was going on. Even omnipresent Joey Coleman wasn’t there.
Many treasured landmarks are on the chopping block, including the Pigott Building, Gore Park, Chester’s Beers of the World, Cheapies and that bubble tea place with the red sign.
